Visa process for foreigners to visit nepal

Tourist visas are available on arrival for citizens of most countries at the designated land borders (see below) for USD25, for 15 days, USD40 for 30 days and USD100 for 90 days . They can only be granted for a maximum of 150 days in each 12 month period.

As well as US dollars, other convertible currencies like the euro, Pound sterling and Australian dollars can also be used but some smaller entry points (like Birgunj) may not accept them.

All tourist visas are currently "multiple entry" type visa and permit multiple entries and exits during the period of validity.

Be aware that without permission voluntary services while on a tourist visa is strictly prohibited. It will be a punishable offence.

On arrival, beside the visa form, the disembarkation form and the payment, you have to produce a recent passport size photo to attach on the visa form. There is a kiosk at Kathmandu Airport before the visa issuing table where you can take photos for USD5.

To extend your tourist visa, visit the Nepal Immigration Office in Kathmandu with your passport and another photo, and pay US $2 for every day past your visa you want to stay, up to the maximum of 150 days per year.

Gratis (Free) VisaFor first visit in one visa year (January to December) , gratis visa for 30 days is available only for nationals of South Asian countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. However, visa can be extended from the Immigration Department on payment of visa fee as specified above.
Indian nationals do not require visa to enter into Nepal.

As per the Nepalese Immigration, Indian Nationals Traveling to Nepal must posses any One of the following documents.
1. Passport
2. Driving License with photo
3. Photo Identity card issued by a Government Agency
4. Ration Card with Photo
5. Election Commission Card with Photo
6. Identity Card issued by Embassy of India in Kathmandu
7. Identity Card with Photo issued by Sub- Divisional Magistrate or any other officials above his rank

Other InformationNationals from Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine and Afghanistan will need to obtain visa from Nepal Embassies or Diplomatic Missions in their respective countries, as they do not get visa on arrival at the immigration entry points of Nepal.
